Anna Pych
was born in Warsaw, Poland and grew up in a working-class family with no musical background. Drawn to poetry and playful improvisation from an early age, she explored a wide range of genres and artistic practices while growing up, including musical theatre, improvised and physical theatre, jazz, and classical flute. She immersed herself in the music of Händel, Mozart, and Lutosławski. Beyond music, she developed a strong interest in languages, learning French and Italian.
In 2016, she moved to the United Kingdom to pursue conservatoire training. She completed her bachelor’s degree at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, studying with Sophie Grimmer and Andrew Matthews-Owen, who encouraged her exploration of contemporary music. Her undergraduate studies were marked by extensive collaboration with student composers, engagement with baroque repertoire and improvisation, and participation in community projects with Streetwise Opera and Blackheath Halls Opera.
In 2024, Anna began her master’s degree at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow under the guidance of Wilma MacDougall. There, she has focused on standard operatic repertoire while continuing to collaborate closely with composers. During this time, she formed a duo with pianist Eléna Esposito, with whom she is building a repertoire centred on 20th- and 21st-century music.
As a result, Anna is a musician who feels equally at home in contemporary and classical repertoire. Her roles range from Blow (The Shepherdess, Venus and Adonis) and Mozart (Susanna, Despina, Pamina) to Ravel (Le Feu, Le Rossignol, La Princesse) and Janáček (Vixen), as well as leading roles in world premieres such as Kael (E. Jessen, Syllable) and A… (E. Jessen, Plantation A…). Whether in recital or on the operatic stage, she strives to forge a deep emotional connection to text and music, telling stories that feel personal and honest.
Alongside performing, Anna is passionate about creating resources that make Polish vocal repertoire more accessible to non-native speakers. Through her project Sing Polish, she leads diction coaching sessions and is developing a database of phonetic transcriptions.
Her studies have been generously supported by Tillett Trust & Colin Keer Trust bursary, RCS Trust, SPK WB Foundation and Tameside Polish Community Charity.
Anna was a 2023 SongEasel Young Artist and the 3rd place winner of the 2025 A Ramsay Calder Debussy Prize for Voice and Norma Grieg French Song Prize with her duo partner Eléna Esposito.
She participated in masterclasses with Anne Sofie von Otter (Wigmore Hall masterclass series), Malcolm Martineau, Roderick Williams, Susan Bullock, Judith Howarth, John Mark Ainsley, Karen Cargill, Ailish Tynan and Dr Ron Morris.
